Crew Experiment in Thyroid Malfunction
This page will function rather like a blog. It will open with the content below, and will be individual stories of each crew members in conjunction with either a short video interview or a photo.
Sick to Death! Crew Control Group
Maggie: “Sarah Devlin was the first person that walked into my office when I started interviewing crew for Sick to Death! I had seen her short film work and was totally impressed. When she arrived and I learned she was only nineteen years old, I was totally blown away. But when she told me she was super excited to work on my film because she had thyroid problems and was utterly hopeless about it, I was really touched and galvanized. But when it happened again with another person interviewing about the film, I thought well, we have a backstory, as well as a random control group about thyroid disease.
I realize that it is possible that some of the estimated 59 million people currently suffering from thyroid disease would happen to find themselves working on a film about this subject. So, I decided to ask each crewmember to take the simple test indicating proper thyroid function. For four mornings in a row, they will each take their temperatures (under arm) in the morning, prior to getting out of bed. We’ll see what we find – learn how everyone’s thyroid is working for them. Or not.

Maggie Hadleigh-West, Writer / Director
Maggie was diagnosed with Graves Disease when she was 32, after which she drank radioactive iodine and her thyroid was annihilated. She has subsequently battled hypothyroidism and the side affects as a result of inadequate medication and the negative impact on her entire endocrine system. To date, she is attempting to rebuild her endocrine function to normalcy so that the natural thyroid medication can work effectively and restore her entire body to a much-desired healthy state.
